The Manufacturing Technology Centre’s advanced capabilities in simulation have been recognised by one of the world’s leading suppliers of physics modelling software.

COMSOL has appointed the MTC as a COMSOL Certified Consultant, recognising its expertise and its close collaboration with the major suppliers in the simulation industry.

Established in Sweden in 1986, COMSOL is the leading provider of software solutions for multi-physics modelling and simulation, with offices in Brazil, China, the United States, France, Germany, India and Russia among others. Its UK base is in Cambridge.

MTC technology manager Borja Lazaro Toralles said the appointment was a significant feather in the MTC’s cap and recognition of its capabilities.

“This status will allow us to reach a wider customer base, allowing us to have more impact through delivering high value simulation and specialised training materials,”  he said.

Wen Zhang, managing director of UK-based COMSOL Ltd., said,

“We have been working closely with the MTC team on diverse projects for a number of years and are excited to have them join the ranks of COMSOL Certified Consultants in the UK. With their expertise in manufacturing process development as well as physics modelling using the COMSOL Multiphysics® software, we are confident this recognition will further strengthen our collaborative efforts and allow the MTC to provide high quality simulation services across a wide range of industries.”

The MTC’s physics modelling team’s advanced simulation capabilities allow it to help companies with product innovation, de-risked investment, cost reduction, process management and manufacturing asset management.

The MTC was founded by the University of Birmingham, Loughborough University, the University of Nottingham and TWI Ltd. The MTC’s industrial members include some of the UK’s major global manufacturers.

The MTC aims to provide a competitive environment to bridge the gap between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, in line with the Government’s manufacturing strategy. The MTC is part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, supported by Innovate UK.
